Trip Report January 2016 – Day 6

Trip Report January 2016 – Day 6

Day 6 of our January vacation started exactly the way Day 5 ended – rainy.  Since we accomplished so much at Extra Magic Hours, we planned a sleep-in morning.  That’s not always possible with a baby, but we tried!

We left our room at Bay Lake Tower at 9:50, and by 10:18 were in the Fastpass line for Jungle Cruise.  We had an excellent skipper for our only daytime journey.

Up next is one of my personal favorites, Enchanted Tiki Room.  I love the show and the music, and it never has a line.  You really can’t be that!

We rode Haunted Mansion on our way to our lunch reservation at Be Our Guest.  If you haven’t eaten here in a while, lunch is still quick service but now takes reservations.  You check in at the podium before the bridge, then are directed inside.  We ordered our meal ahead of time in My Disney Experience.  This process has also changed and is now faster than it used to be.  The pre-order line bypasses the armor hall.  We paid for our meal with quick service meal credits, snack credits, and even room charge.  Since we don’t eat here often, we really loaded up on our favorites!

After lunch it was still rainy so we shopped the Emporium for a while.  It’s nice to shop before an afternoon break because you can take your goodies back to the room immediately but avoid the bigger late night crowds.

Ohana dinner was our only solid plan for the evening, so we walked around the Contemporary for a while.  Then we took the monorail to the Polynesian and walked and shopped.

We eat at Ohana on about 95% of our trips, so we’ve experienced many menu changes and a gamut of service.  This meal was one of the better menu incarnations in recent history.  Despite fewer meat offerings, the selection of sides is great and the lettuce wraps are gone.  Despite my attempts to like the lettuce wraps, I just could not.  I’m missing the gene that makes vegetables that taste like dirt palatable.

Our meal was excellently paced, maybe the tiniest bit fast at the beginning.  For a table of 4, we were seated and out in 1 hour exactly.  Our baby’s attention span at meals was decreasing by about 10 minutes every meal, so this was exceptionally welcome.  Although we ate like gluttons, we didn’t hobble out to the monorail like usual.

We went back to our room at Bay Lake Tower just in time to watch Wishes from our living room/balcony.  Yes, you read this day’s report correctly – we did nothing but eat, shop, and experience 3 attractions!
