New Resort Hotel Coming to WDW in 2012

Years ago, Phase 2 of Disney’s Pop Century Resort was started, but never completed.  Disney has new plans for this area now: a brand new resort hotel!

Phase 2 of Pop Century, which was to house 2,880 rooms and was to be called The Legendary Years, will now be coined Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and is scheduled to open in 2012. The official announcement can be found here, on the official Disney blog.

This resort will, as always, be one-of-a-kind.  Four themes will adorn the buildings, which will finally feature more family suites.  The themes will be Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid.

Of the almost 2,000 units, 1,120 will be family suites scattered throughout the Lion King, Cars and Nemo buildings, and 864 standard rooms in the Little Mermaid building.  Disney is going all out with the themes, as they will not only construct features like the 35-foot-tall King Triton outside, but they’ll continue the themes into the rooms themselves.

As families have grown in size over the years, the demand for guest rooms that can accommodate more than four guests has also increased. This is Disney’s economical answer – a Value Resort full of family suites, which will have a master bedroom and a living room with additional sleeping capacity.

This is very exciting news coming out of the Orlando vacation kingdom – and should prove to be a welcome addition for families with 5 or 6 members.  We’ll provide updates as construction progresses.
