Mickey’s Toontown Fair Closing in February 2011
We received big news today, confirming the advancement of the major Fantasyland expansion at the Magic Kingdom.
Phase Two of the project will begin soon, which starts with the closing of Mickey’s Toontown Fair. February 11, 2011 will be the last day that guests will be able to tour the land, which was supposed to be temporary when they built it for Mickey’s birthday several years ago.
Mickey, Minnie and the Disney Princesses will move from their current homes in Toontown to the Town Square Exposition Hall for meet-n-greets beginning in Spring 2011. Between February and “Spring” they will greet guests at other locations throughout the park.
Tinker Bell will move to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, while the rest of her fairy friends will greet guests in Epcot, also beginning in the Spring.
The Railroad Station in Toontown will close when Toontown closes, but the Railroad will remain in operation.
We also expect Goofy’s Barnstormer to begin its makeover at the same time. It will be given a Circus overlay to fit with the proposed new “circus” theme of that area. The new Double Dumbo will also begin construction.
We have not yet heard any details regarding re-opening dates for Goofy’s Barnstormer or the Railroad Station, nor has Disney made any mention of when the rest of the expansion will open. We’re guessing by October 2011, since that will mark the 40th anniversary of Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World.
